Is going to church our duty? Is it that big requirement that God has for us to make sure
we are faithful? Honestly, I think there are many Christians who see it that way.
The reason church feels like a duty is often because we are not living out our
relationship with God all week. Being nice and kind and fair is not the same thing as
living out our relationship. We do life all week for ourselves and that makes going to
church the outlier, and thus it becomes duty. We are by nature self-focused which
inherently puts God on the outside looking in. Therefore, giving him a Sunday becomes
an inconvenience to our otherwise self-focused week. In other words, a duty.
Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind every day! This means that
Church becomes the place where we get to (Notice I said “get to”) gather and celebrate
what God has done throughout our week. Trust me, it makes a difference.
